Unit 1- Grammar

This unit gave me a better understanding of some terms that are really used when teaching and learning English language.Ellis (2006) defines grammar teaching as: "Grammar teaching involves any instructional technique that draws learners' attention to some specific grammatical form in such a way that it helps them either to understand it metalinguistically and/or process it in comprehension and/or production so that they can internalize it". I consider that explaining my students what grammar is, its forms and uses, students will be aware of the importance of learning this difficult but important aspect of learning a language. Telling students that a form can be the “s” when pluralizing a noun, as in books will clear the doubts that they might have when learning something. Explaining them that we can identify forms when words have affixes -group of letters added at the end or beginning of a base word which change its meaning- (prefixes and suffixes) explaining them that prefixes is a group of letters added in front of the word. While suffixes is a group of letters added at the end of a word.  Both can change the meaning of a word or its word class will make them realize that this language is not that different from their mother tongue. I consider that all this explanation will ease the process of learning a language and the objective that is make them competent speakers able to convey meaning using grammatical structures.
